Understanding Pressure Washing Equipment: What the Professionals Use

Professional pressure washing equipment is very different from what you can hire or buy. Here's what makes the difference.

The most fundamental difference between professional and consumer pressure washing equipment is power output — measured in both pressure (PSI or bar) and flow rate (litres per minute). Consumer machines typically deliver 100–150 bar and 6–8 litres per minute. Professional commercial machines deliver 150–250 bar and 12–25 litres per minute. This higher flow rate is what allows professional cleaning to cover large areas quickly and thoroughly.

The rotary surface cleaner is the attachment that makes the biggest practical difference in results. This disc-shaped attachment contains two spinning jets that clean flat surfaces in a perfectly uniform pattern. The spinning action prevents the streaking that results from using a hand-held lance, and the enclosed design stops dirty water from spraying in all directions. Professional surface cleaners cover large areas of driveway or patio in a fraction of the time a lance would take.

Commercial pressure washing machines are typically petrol-powered rather than electric. This means they're not dependent on an electricity supply — important when working on driveways, patios, or remote areas where a power connection isn't available. Petrol machines are also more powerful and suited to prolonged continuous use. The fuel cost is built into the service charge, so there's no need for you to provide power for the job.
